REILLY FAMILY || San Marcos, CA || Whenever I want to take a trip back in time 10 years to look at myself, to remember my perspective on the world, to see the youthful energy I used to have, to recall my relationship with my sister at that age or think back on memories of my mom, grandma, sister and I together, I look at these two. One cliche in life that's been fact in mine so far is that certain people are meant to come together. And for something pretty profound.
The instant I saw Ally more than two years ago, I knew like a bolt of lightning there'd be some real reason why. And it wasn't just that she replied to my ad for a babysitter and my kids instantly loved her, or that she was from my hometown, that she grew up watching the Padres and the Chargers just like I did or that she was the renegade sister who left home after high school to find a new city and start a new life of her own. It was something deeper I saw behind that smile: god, she reminded me of me. A ten-years-younger me. Actually more like 15, but who's counting . . .
What's so profound about knowing someone who reminds you of a younger you? I think it's that I feel like I get to do it all over again when I watch her. On this sunny, stormy, blustery night Ally's family took me back to the days when my family was just like hers: a mom, a grandma and two sisters indistinguishable in age and electrically connected. I also brought my sister along on this shoot, the first time anyone's ever watched me work. Corey joined us to capture this beautiful video she gifted me for my website. I think her presence there was pretty apropos. Needless to say, this session has become one of my most treasured of the season . . . or even always.
